Philosophy of Law

Taught by Colin Redemer
Difficulty: Intermediate
Crosslist: Philosophy
Runs 4/8 – 6/15/24
$225.00 – $399.00

This seminar will explore the intersections of law, ethics, and metaphysics through the lenses of three towering figures: Plato, Thomas Aquinas, and Richard Hooker. Primary attention will be paid to the ways in which Hooker (as the representative of the Protestant tradition) fits with the classical and catholic tradition. Thomas and Plato will provide the bulk of our reading for reasons well-expressed by Josef Pieper: Thomas (and Plato) effaces himself to the end that the intelligibility of the tradition may show clear. This clarity will be an aid to any practicing Christian lawyer, to any Christian leader who is navigating an institution through tumultuous times politically or legally, and to any eager student of Christian ethics.

Deadline to register: Friday, March 29th
